Spring seems to be the season of change for channel executives this year, with news of big changes recently at Intel, Arrow, Oracle and Cisco even lost its Linksys channel executive, Nigel Williams.

And now Hewlett-Packard has appointed insider Enrique Lores to senior vice president of worldwide sales for its Personal Systems Group and head of its Solutions Partner Organization, the company announced this week. Lores has spent 20 years with HP, virtually his entire career, joining in 1988 as a research and development engineer.

The promotion will take him from his current home in Barcelona, Spain, to Silicon Valley.

Lores replaces Jim McDonnell, who is moving to a position within the company's Technology Solutions Group (TSG), leading global sales programs for the Enterprise Storage and Servers business unit, HP said in its announcement of the promotion.

The 42-year-old Lores will be responsible for the strategy and growth of the business group's direct and channel commercial volume sales for the Personal Systems Group which includes business desktops, notebooks, workstations and client virtualization, plus services and support, including IT lifecycle.

Lores will indirectly report to Ann Livermore, executive vice president of the Technology Solutions Group and Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of the Imaging and Printing Group (IPG), at HP.

Before the promotion, Lores served since 2003 as general manager and vice president of HP's Inkjet Commercial Division, responsible for IPG's large-format printing business.

Lores holds an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and an MBA from ESADE Business School in Barcelona.
